introduction

The fields of biochemistry and molecular biology are related to each other and focus on the chemical structures and processes that reinforce life. The study of biochemistry is centered on the chemistry of living things. It explores the dynamic interplay among cell components and the chemical processes within cells, investigating how cells metabolize nutrients, synthesize proteins, and facilitate material movement in the body. Biochemistry investigates the structure and functions of macromolecules like DNA, RNA, and proteins, exploring their impact on the overall functioning of cells and organisms. In contrast, the field of molecular biology focuses on the study of cellular and molecular processes using methods from the fields of genetics, biochemistry, and microbiology to comprehend how biological systems behave at the molecular level.

A thorough understanding of the molecular basis of life is provided by the combined fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. This understanding is essential to many fields in health, agriculture, and environmental research. Scientists can learn more about illnesses, create novel therapies, raise agricultural yields, and safeguard the environment by investigating the molecular processes that underlie life which are the main focus of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Due to the growing demands and importance of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dhaka International University opened the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2023. This department aspires to generate knowledgeable and skilled biochemists as well as molecular biologists who will be able to contribute to society at both national and international levels. Its goal is to fully prepare students for professional programs in business, academia, research organizations, and healthcare. Students get practical experience with modern approaches and instruments throughout the program, which enables them to explore more deeply into fields of study that bridge the gap between what is now understood and what remains to be found.

mission

  • To offer high-quality courses in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology appropriate for bioscience students to produce graduates with high skills in solving biomedical problems.
  • To provide innovative and knowledge-based students capable of contributing to the society and to face challanges of future.

vision

  • To generate world-class knowledge on the molecular events underlying normal and pathophysiological functions in living organisms
  • To transfer such knowledge and education to students, physicians, and other allied health personnel, and to educate the general public.
